Thiamethoxam is an insecticide in the class of neonicotinoids. Neonicotinoids, like nicotine, bind to nicotinic acetylcholine receptors of a cell and trigger a response by that cell. While low to moderate activationof these receptors causes nervous stimulation, high levels overstimulate and block the receptors causing paralysis and death. Thiamethoxam is a systemic insecticide that is absorbed quickly by plants and transported to all parts of the plant, where it acts as a deterrent to insect feeding.
