Drospirenone is a synthetic hormone used in birth control pills and postmenopausal hormone replacement therapy pills. It is an analog to Spironolactone. Spironolactone is known to possess the following pharmacological activity: Mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist, Androgen receptor antagonist, Progesterone receptor agonist, Glucocorticoid receptor antagonist, Steroid 11β-hydroxylase, 18-hydroxylase, 17alpha-hydroxylase, and 17,20-lyase inhibitor, Pregnane X receptor agonist. It is sold under the brand names Yasmin, Yasminelle, Yaz, Beyaz, Ocella, Zarah, and Angeliq.
